Psalm 67: 6-7
In the hustle and bustle of the Advent season, when we’re scurrying to find that perfect gift for a certain someone, do we ever pause to consider the true treasures God has bestowed upon us? We see images of people camped out for days around retail centers to stampede into a store to find that “special deal”. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if people were camped out around places of worship and eager to rush in to hear the word of God and find out what wonderful “special deals” He has in store for us?
At this time in my life, I think of gift giving more in terms of sharing time with others, touching the hand of someone who is yearning for human contact, saying “you are loved” more frequently, remembering that everyone I see is a child of God and that He has blessed each and everyone of us with special talents.
Advent is a time of joyful anticipation, not waiting for the material gifts we may receive but anticipating the “special deal” of Christ’s birth. It’s cashing in on the idea that God has bestowed this wonderful earth into our care and given us the gifts of faith, hope and charity to share with all His people.
Prayer: God, during this Advent season help us to be thankful for the gifts you have bestowed upon us and help us be good stewards of these gifts so that we may use them for your honor and glory!
