Covenant

Welcome to Musings! As participants in the conversations on this blog, we covenant together that we will maintain a spirit of good will, of openness to each other, and of mutual respect in our discussions; that we will listen to each other and endeavor to understand each other, especially those whose views differ from ours; and that we will remember that we are brothers and sisters in Christ.

Why Musings?

  • The Musings Page will be a place to consider thought-provoking, evocative, sometimes polemical but not overtly political, writings, quotes, ideas, and poetry on the Christian life in all its facets: spiritual, religious, ethical, and practical.

Fourth Thursday in Advent – God is My Rock

I love you, O LORD, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer,
my God, my rock in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised,
so I shall be saved from my enemies.

He reached down from on high, he took me;
he drew me out of mighty waters.
He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from those who hated me;
for they were too mighty for me.
They confronted me in the day of my calamity;
but the LORD was my support.
He brought me into a broad place;
he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

Psalm 18:1-3, 16-19

This passage drew me in like a warm blanket.

We have all been busy preparing for this wonderful time of year.  I have enjoyed some much needed time with my family and just about finished my shopping.  Listening to the carols on the radio, baking, cleaning and anticipating enjoying special times with friends. I feel so blessed. This afternoon was different.  Today I had a chance to visit a friend I had not seen in a couple months.   In just a few short weeks her body has been devastated by cancer. She is a wonderful mother, wife, and dear friend. Any troubles I have seen are quickly put in perspective as I see her pain.  But her resolve is clear.  Her faith is strong like a fortress. I know God is her stronghold.  It is my faith that tells me God will see her through this difficult time.  He will walk beside her and her family because He is delighted in her– her goodness, her laugh, her tender smile.  He IS there to grant each of us strength and peace. I am thankful for Him each day, especially today.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, my thanks for being a mighty rock and our deliverer.  Help each of us to feel your love and comfort and be a vessel to serve you. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen
